When you hear the name Tim Burton, you automatically think of larger than life fantasy films like Edward Scissorhands, Alice in Wonderland, Beetlejuice, and most recently, Frankenweenie, all of which utilize cartoonish elements, enhanced by the latest and greatest in special effects. However, the Oscar-nominated genius is taking a step back from his trademark world of imagination to produce and direct Big Eyes.
According to Slash Film, the movie follows real-life painter, Margaret Keane, and her husband, Walter, whose big-eyed paintings of children (see image above) hit the mass market in the 50s and 60s. The conflict arises when Margaret’s business-minded husband takes all the credit for the success of the paintings. Amy Adams (The Master) and Christoph Waltz (Django Unchained) are set to star as the couple, which will make for interesting pairing, especially in what sounds like a character-driven story for Burton to take on.
Last year, Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Reynolds were rumored to star in the project; however I think an Adams-Waltz pairing sounds much more interesting. What do you think of Burton’s casting decision? Would you see a scaled down production by the imaginative director?
