One of the highlights of this year’s Sundance Film Festival was the Nat Faxon & Jim Rash (The Descendants) co-written/directed pic, The Way, Way Back, a summer coming-of-age story that supposedly got a standing ovation after its world premiere. While the film’s story and writing is spot on, the talent that backs the film is incredible what with Steve Carell, Toni Collette, Allison Janney, AnnaSophia Robb, Sam Rockwell, Maya Rudolph, Amanda Peet, and Rob Corddry taking supporting roles. Oh, the directors have roles in the movie as Nat Faxon is Ben from Ben & Kate and Jim Rash plays Dean Pelton on Community.
The trailer for The Way, Way Back has just arrived and it definitely seems to live up to the hype that came out of Sundance. Firstly you have a perfectly cast lead in the form of small TV star Liam James and then you have so many funny people filling the supporting roles around him. On top of that, you’ve got Steve Carell doing something different and going against type, playing what most people would call a dick which is something I’ve been waiting to see.
Take a look at the trailer below and mark your calendar for what will hopefully be a sweet and endearing summer film that everyone can enjoy.
Similar in to Juno and Little Miss Sunshine, Fox Searchlight will be releasing this film on July 5th and I bet you it’ll be the indie hit of the summer.
