It looks like The Tree of Life director Terrence Malick can have any and every actor on the planet in his upcoming films. This is true for Oscar winners Natalie Portman (Black Swan) and Christian Bale (The Dark Knight Rises) who appear in Malick’s Knight of Cups, which has a very tightly-mum plot. IMDB only shares the tagline “A man, temptations, celebrity, and excess,” which doesn’t reveal much about what’s going on in the story.
However, while Malick is known for his abstractly epic takes on storytelling, we can at least get a sneak peek at the pair in this newly released image from the film, courtesy of The Hollywood Reporter.
The film also totes an all-star cast which includes Cate Blanchett (The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey), Teresa Palmer (Warm Bodies), Antonio Banderas (Machete Kills), Joe Manganiello (Magic Mike), Wes Bentley (Lovelace), Isabel Lucas (Red Dawn), Freida Pinto (Immortals), Imogen Poots (The Look Of Love), and Nick Offerman (Parks & Recreation).
What’s also interesting about this cast is that Portman, Bale, and Blanchett all appear in another untitled Malick project with intersecting love triangles, which also includes Ryan Gosling, Rooney Mara, and Michael Fassbender, among others.
The film is currently in post-production and is set for a release sometime this year. Are you following Malick’s secretly-guarded film projects? What do you think about Portman and Bale as an on-screen pair?
