Luc Besson is finally returning to the director’s chair after a two year absence following the lackluster biopic/drama The Lady with a new film that’s on the complete opposite end of the spectrum and more in line with his written work, The Family (formerly Malativa), a new mob crime/comedy starring Robert de Niro and Michelle Pfeiffer (where the hell has she been?) and Tommy Lee Jones.
The trailer and poster for the film have recently been released and, like most mob crime comedies, I’m interested. This has Besson’s signature energy and, thanks to that, it looks like it could be a fun little mob movie that delivers some good laughs and decent action.
Check out the synopsis and trailer below and see if it’s something you’d be interested in seeing as well. The movie hits theaters on September 20th.
A mafia boss and his family are relocated to a sleepy town in France under the witness protection program after snitching on the mob. Despite the best efforts of Agent Stansfield to keep them in line, Fred Manzoni, his wife Maggie and their children Belle and Warren can’t help but revert to old habits and blow their cover by handling their problems the “family” way, enabling their former mafia cronies to track them down.
