Probably not, but kids will most likely adore this live action/animation hybrid film. A childhood past time of mine was growing up watching Yogi Bear and loving all of his ridiculous antics just to steal some food. While I wasn’t opposed to the making of this movie, and may even have been a little bit excited on the inside, I sure wasn’t going to get my hopes up because I know how many of these types of hybrids have failed (ehmm…Alvin and the Chipmunks). Check out my trailer and thoughts after the jump.
It was a good thing I didn’t get my hopes up because the trailer didn’t do anything for me. Granted it may be great for the kids but for those who grew up watching Yogi and Boo-Boo will find one thing that will really bother them, and that is Dan Aykroyd’s accent for Yogi. He just doesn’t nail it at all. There was only one point in the beginning of the trailer where I thought to myself, “hey they got the voice down” but then after watching it I just lost all faith.
Justin Timberlake wasn’t bad as Boo-Boo but I’m not there to just see Boo-Boo, I want me some good old fashion Yogi bear. But speaking of Boo-Boo, is it me or is he missing that stoned look that he had in the cartoon, you know that mopey high look where he is really helping Yogi because he has the munchies. Also, I think casting Anna Faris never helps because I can’t take her as a serious actress, even in comedic roles she isn’t very convincing.
You can take my opinions for what they are but I’m curious if anyone else feels the same way. I’ll probably watch this when it comes out on DVD because it doesn’t look like it is worth the money, especially since the 3D will probably suck.
In case you wanted some details about the cast here they are:
The film is directed by Eric Brevig (Journey to the Center of the Earth) and stars Anna Fairs, T.J. Miller, Tom Cavanagh, Nathan Corddry, with the voices of Justin Timberlake and Dan Aykroyd
Yahoo has got the exclusive trailer for the film so check it out below and tell us what you think of it.
