As some of you may know, Graham and I are obsessed with collecting movie poster art and love showcasing great work from around the globe. With that in mind we are happy to exclusively unveil a new piece from Texas based artist Timothy Pittides (you’ve seen some of his work in our Bottleneck Gallery posts) who will be releasing an Exorcist inspired piece as part of Blood Thirty Thursdays’ three year anniversary screening of William Friedkin’s The Exorcist.
When asked about the piece and about the inclusion of Arabic Timothy had the following to say:
“I wanted to do something different with this print. So much iconic imagery and so many posters and art utilize Reagan and Merrin so I decided that I wanted to give the poster some character and perhaps a different viewpoint. The view from inside the crevice where pazuzu could have been hiding seemed like such a natural theme, I was surprised I couldn’t find an adaptation of it. And keeping with the landscape, a Middle Eastern theme was used. The Arabic surrounding the artwork on the poster is actually the entire “The Power of Christ compels You” monologue during the exorcism ritual in the film. I fell in love with this piece from the start and I hope you all enjoy it!”
Now for the print details. The piece is a 12”x32” 3 color screen print with a run of 35 copies. The print will be available on Thursday September 12th at the 7:45pm screening at the Westlakes Cinemas located in San Antonio TX. You will not need a ticket to grab one of these. They will be available outside the theatre doors 15 minutes prior to show time and immediately following the film.
For those of you that love the print and don’t happen to live in the San Antonio area, fear not for artist proof editions will be available at a later date.
