Almost two years ago, Movie Buzzers reported on the rumors behind a biopic about screen legend and real-life princess, Grace Kelly. Images of the film’s star, Nicole Kidman (Stoker), in costume surfaced, sparking a deeper interest by the public and critics. Not to mention all the comparisons between upcoming reviews for the story about Kelly on the big screen versus Naomi Watts’ portrayal of Princess Diana in Diana- both which are buzzing for this year’s awards season.
The movie, Grace of Monaco, finally has a its first teaser trailer, bringing the Oscar-winning Philadelphia native and Hitchcock muse to life, but of course, in a very limited, teasing way. Kidman is silent throughout the 72-second trailer, sharing only a solemn facial expression, done up in the most gorgeous of couture. Kidman simply looks like she’s the red carpet princess fashion critics can immediately recognize, but the real headlines of a more in-depth trailer will warn whether or not the Australian star could fill the elegant shoes of America’s princess of Monaco.
The film follows Kelly during her early years as princess, retiring from the Hollywood spotlight, and focuses on her political involvement in resolving a dispute with France. The cast includes Tim Roth (Arbitrage) as Prince Rainier III, Frank Langella (Frost/Nixon) as Father Francis Tucker, André Penvdrn (Inglorious Basterds) as Charles de Gaulle, Milo Ventimiglia (TV’s Heroes) as Rupert Allan, Parker Posey (Highland Park) as Madge Tovey-Faucon, Derek Jacobi (The King’s Speech) as Count Fernando D’Aillieres, Roger Ashton-Griffiths (Game of Thrones) as director Alfred Hitchcock, and Spanish actress Paz Vega (Spanglish) as Maria Callas.
The film hits theaters on November 27th, just in time for the first round of major nominations! What do you think of Kidman taking on Grace Kelly? Do you agree with the casting choice?
