Seth Macfarlane is back to write, star, produce and direct a new R-rated western comedy called A Million Ways to Die in the West. The Family Guy funnyman has rounded up a solid supporting cast to join him for his second feature film and they include Charlize Theron, Liam Neeson, Amanda Seyfried, Giovanni Ribisi, Sarah Silverman and Neil Patrick Harris. Now, there are plenty of people who both love and hate Macfarlane, I tend to enjoy his ridiculousness, but be sure to keep in mind that, in this film, he is actually acting and won’t be playing an CGI teddy bear. This is important as you get ready to click the play button for our first video look at the promising A Million Ways to Die in the West.
Plot: After Albert backs out of a gunfight, his fickle girlfriend leaves him for another man. When a mysterious and beautiful woman rides into town, she helps him find his courage and they begin to fall in love. But when her husband, a notorious outlaw, arrives seeking revenge, the farmer must put his newfound courage to the test.
I loved Ted and am a casual Family Guy fan but I wasn’t a big fan of this trailer. I read bits of a review from a test screening that said the movie was funny but I think having Seth as a lead makes the jokes less funny. If you got some guy who didn’t appear like a wise-ass saying those jokes it’d probably be hilarious, but I didn’t laugh that much during this trailer and it’s because it all feels so predictable when he says it. It felt too much like Family Guy dialogue forced into a live-action western. I hope the movie doesn’t turn out like this but maybe we’ll get lucky and the supporting cast will steal the show, either way I’m glad my expectations have gone down to give the film a better chance of winning me over.
