Lionsgate has acquired the U.S rights to Sundance dark-comedy hit, The Voices, which if opinions on the film are to be believed, is very good news.
The Voices is directed by Iranian-born filmmaker, Marjane Satrapi, who’s previous credits include Persepolis. It’s her English-language debut and has gone down a storm at the Sundance Film Festival.
The Voices stars Ryan Reynolds, who has had an up and down time (more downs) recently and could do with a hit, and this sounds like it could be the one to set his career back on the right track. Jerry (Reynolds) is fairly unstable and has mental health issues. He’s a simple factory worker, but things start to take a turn for the worse when he falls for an employee (Gemma Arterton) and takes counsel from his evil, murderous cat, and good-natured dog. The film is said to mix comedy, horror and fantasy all into one and it definitely sounds interesting. There’s said to be a fine line between Jerry’s mental health issues and Reynolds strikes a fine balance between the humour the films needs and the severity of the situation.
There isn’t a release date for The Voices as yet, not is there a trailer, but from the sounds of things this is one to keep your eye out for in the future.
