At the closing night reception for the second annual First Time Fest at 42 West, Love Steaks won the “contest disguised as a film festival” and received the prize all emerging filmmakers crave: theatrical distribution. The voting jury included actor Nicholas Haden-Guest, Eye For Film‘s Anne-Katrin Titze, and Village Voice Chief Film Critic Stephanie Zacharek, who were there in-person to present the awards. The Grand Prize winner was awarded two unique prizes: first, a writer’s retreat trip to Scandinavia (from Scandinavia Locations) and theatrical distribution from Cinema Libre studios. Along with the Grand Prize, a number of other key awards were given to the films in competition:
Grand Prize: Love Steaks (Directed by Jakob Lass)
Special Jury Prize: 1982 (Directed by Tommy Oliver)
Outstanding Achievement in Directing: Bittersweet (Marieke Niestadt)
Outstanding Achievement in Storytelling: Farewell, Herr Schwarz (Directed by Yael Reuveny)
Outstanding Achievement in Cinematography: The Sleepwalker (Cinematography by Zachary Galler)
Outstanding Achievement in Editing: Love Steaks (Gesa Jäger)
Outstanding Achievement in Scoring: The Sleepwalker (Music by Sondre Lerche and Kato Abland)
Outstanding Achievement in Acting: Hill Harper for 1982
We will have full coverage of the awards ceremony, including photos of Julie Taymor accepting the John Huston Award for Outstanding Achievement in Cinema up later this evening. But for now, congrats to Love Steaks and all the winning films!
