Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly are a comedic duo I will always venture out to see together. They have unbelievable chemistry and the lines that they come up with when sharing the screen always make me suffocate from laughter. I mention this because the two are re-teaming for a new project at Sony called Border Guards and, what’s more interesting, is that it is being written by Oscar-nominated writer Jesse Armstrong. Armstrong wrote the hilarious film Four Lions as well as the critically acclaimed In the Loop, so he is no stranger to coming up with poignant yet hilarious takes political issues and it seems that’s what he’ll be doing with this one.
According to deadline, “Ferrell and Reilly playing two hapless but earnest friends who decide to give purpose to their lives by protecting America’s borders from illegal immigrants. In the process they find themselves accidentally stranded in Mexico without identification and must sneak back into the U.S.”
Sounds like a brilliant plot worthy of Ferrell and Reilly’s comedic and dramatic talents. What’s more, there is a chance that frequent collaborator Adam McKay (Step Brothers) will direct the film, something that should prove to be very interesting for fans of all those currently involved in the project.
I wonder if Ferrell will have an opportunity to flex those Spanish speaking muscles of his as a sort of bad translator for Reilly’s character. Either way, I’m completely for this project and hope we get to see it sooner rather than later.
