Jersey Boys is one of the biggest Broadway musical hits of the 21st century, and considering it is based on one of the most popular musical groups of the 20th century, Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, is that a surprise?
After years of success on Broadway, Clint Eastwood has directed a film adaptation of the beloved musical, and we finally have the first trailer. From the trailer it seems like Eastwood has completely captured the tone of the musical and embraced production aspects — like period cars and architecture — that can’t be done on stage. It helps that Eastwood cast John Lloyd Young, who originated the role of Frankie Valli on Broadway, in the same role in this film. Eastwood also picked other stage vets for the cast — Erich Bergen plays band member Bob Gaudio in the movie after the playing him on stage in the national tour, Las Vegas, and Los Angeles versions of the musical and Michael Lomenda plays band member Nick Massi, who played the role in the Toronto version and on the national tour. The movie version also features Christopher Walken and Vincent Piazza.
