While it’s fair to say that we here at Movie Buzzers were less than thrilled with the idea of Ben Affleck playing Batman, we still have yet to see much to either prove us wrong or prove us right in our assessment of his ability to pull off being the Caped Crusader. Yesterday Batman vs. Superman director Zack Snyder teased on his Twitter that we’d get the first glimpse of the new Batmobile today. Little did we know that today we’d actually get our first look at the Batmobile AND Affleck as Batman. Check it out below (and click for a larger version):
While I’ve already seen a few complaints of the suit being black-on-black like every movie Batman suit, I don’t think this shadowy black-and-white photo tells the whole story just yet. In fact, Comic Book Resources blew the image of Batman up and it looks like the bodysuit might actually be a lighter color than the cowl and cape (check that out here).
With the smaller horns, larger chest symbol, and the more “material” look (as opposed to body armor), this Batman design looks very influenced by Frank Miller’s Dark Knight Returns costume design (see below to compare):
Considering that is one of the all-time classic Batman costume designs, I think most fans will be very happy once we get a better look at it.
The Man of Steel sequel — which still doesn’t have an official title — is set to open on May 6, 2015, stars Henry Cavill as Superman, Ben Affleck as Batman, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, and Jeremy Irons as Alfred.
But until then, what are your thoughts on our first look at Snyder’s Batman? Tell us below in the comments!
