There are plenty of films that I’ve been excited about this year but there are a bunch that I’m keen on seeing that didn’t make my most anticipated of the year. One of the titles that didn’t make my list is Morten Tyldum‘s The Imitation Game starring Keira Knightley, Benedict Cumberbatch, Matthew Goode, and Mark Strong. The film is about Alan Turing, the famed Brit who helped crack the German Naval Enigma, helping decipher codes that would become vital to turning the tides of the war during WWII.
As a fan of WWII cinema and history, I’m always fascinated by the various stories and behind-the-scenes heroes that helped change the direction of the war, especially when it comes to the code-breaking history and the troubles Enigma had caused early on in the war. Based on the trailer, this film is seems ready for an awards campaign and has all the aspects of a WWII biopic that you could ask for, plus it address the hot button issue of homosexuality, which became an issue for Turing in his home of Britain where it was illegal to participate in those kind of acts.
Check out the trailer for The Imitation Game below and bet on it hitting some prestigious festival(s) before its theatrical release on November 21st.
In THE IMITATION GAME, Benedict Cumberbatch stars as Alan Turing, the genius British mathematician, logician, cryptologist and computer scientist who led the charge to crack the German Enigma Code that helped the Allies win WWII. Turing went on to assist with the development of computers at the University of Manchester after the war, but was prosecuted by the UK government in 1952 for homosexual acts which the country deemed illegal.
