While we couldn’t make it to SDCC this year, it isn’t going to stop us on recapping some of the bigger moments that went down at the geek mecca of the world. As usual, Marvel attended the show and brought with them a ton of goodies from their upcoming slate, much of which was focused on Ant-Man and Avengers: Age of Ultron.
First up, news on Ant-Man since it’s pretty brief due to the film’s production delays. The major bits that escaped Hall H that seemed to be newsworthy was this cool concept art poster by Andy Park exclusive to the Con (on the left), that Patrick Wilson dropped out of the film, and that Corey Stoll would be playing Darren Cross a.k.a. Yellowjacket and that Evangeline Lilly would be playing Hank Pym’s daughter, Hope Pym. While the news may be brief, at least it’s cool that Yellowjacket will be making an appearance in the film.
Moving on to the bigger film, Avengers: Age of Ultron. The people in Hall H had an opportunity to see some footage from the film and there are a few write-ups around the net so I’m going to focus on what I have seen, which is some of the props and the cool collection of concept art posters that form a bigger poster, similar tot he way Marvel released posters for the build-up to The Avengers.
First up is the concept art posters all compiled together. It’s our first look at Vision and our first look at Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch in costume (we saw their physical form via a cameo in Thor: The Dark World). Paul Bettany, who is playing Vision, says that the character has density-shifting power, so that should be pretty cool when we see him join-up with the Avengers gang. Any who, back to the poster, it features a bunch of Ultrons which means our heroes are in for a brutal fight.
Outside of Hall H, fans had a chance to see some props from the film, including a destroyed Mark 1 Ultron, a cracked Captain America Shield and a look at the electric Harley Davidson Motorcycle that Black Widow rides around on (though we have a still from the film featuring the cycle and Cap’s shield blocking widow’s face since it’s likely a stunt double). I’m particularly interested in knowing how Captain America’s shield gets brutally cracked like that.
Overall, there’s some pretty cool stuff to keep our mouths watering but not enough for fans outside the Con to be spoiled by scenes. I expect we’ll get our first trailer for the film in a few months, but until then soak up what you can from here and keep your attention focused on the upcoming release of Guardians of the Galaxy as I hear it’s fantastic.
