If you’re thinking “Wait, haven’t we already had a Steve Jobs biopic starring Ashton Kutcher?” then the answer is yes, and not many people liked it, so the nice people at Universal (originally kick-started by Sony but later dropped) are bringing us a new one! And this one will be directed by Danny Boyle starring Michael Fassbender as Jobs, Seth Rogan as Steve Wozniak and Kate Winslet as Joanna Hoffman.
And now we have our first look at what is a real tiny teaser, only see Fassbender as Jobs in all his glory for a fleeting moment.
From the trailer it’s hard to see what kind of film we’re likely to get from Boyle. It’s clear from a physical aspect that Ashton Kutcher looks like a much better Steve Jobs, but, that doesn’t make up everything as we saw in 2013. Then again, having a stellar cast can’t fix a bad script. And that’s not to say the upcoming Steve Jobs film – which is set to be released in October of this year – has a bad script, but the signs might point that way.
Rumours suggest the film is set in mostly in real time at 3 key Apple events, and aside from minor flashbacks these scenes will be uninterrupted. Add to that all of the casting issues which have plagued the film with numerous drop-outs to the point Sony themselves decided to wash their hands of the project. Yet now, months before the release we’re hearing whispers of the Oscar potential – something doesn’t add up. After-all, how often have we heard this about highly anticipated biopics only for the film to be destroyed in the reviews and fall into obscurity.
Of course it’s far too soon to tell, but come October 9th (four days after the fourth Anniversary of Jobs’ passing) we’ll get to see first hand which way it goes. Check out the teaser below and let us know what you think!
