Dwayne Johnson, Carla Gugino, and Alexandra Daddario star in Brad Peyton’s explosive special effects orgy, San Andreas, a disaster film about Earthquakes wreaking havoc in California.
After the infamous San Andreas Fault gives, triggering a magnitude 9-plus earthquake in California, a search and rescue helicopter pilot (Dwayne Johnson) and his estranged wife (Carla Gugino) make their way together from Los Angeles to San Francisco to save their only daughter.
But their treacherous journey north is only the beginning. And when they think the worst may be over…it’s just getting started.
Since I just had a second surgery on my arm, I’m keeping my review brief due to the stress of typing with one hand.
Realism be damned, San Andreas is a very predictable, loud, and effects heavy film about disasters with Dwayne Johnson in the leading role. If the aforementioned sentence is ok with you or you liked the trailer, then go make your way to the theater and have fun. If the aforementioned sentence scares you, run and scream in the exact opposite direction of the theater.
While the film focuses on three stories, the movie’s strongest attribute is not the talent, it is its beautifully crafted effects, sound mixing and editing. There’s a bunch of “oh sh!t” moments as a result of the chaos the destruction causes, like when you see people getting crushed by falling buildings, but then there is also the “wow’ factor from how impressive the CG is. I would never recommend seeing this movie in 3D since you probably won’t see anything on screen, but if you want some mindless and ridiculous fun, this will certainly hold you over for a day or so, just don’t expect a story or good dialogue.
