Rock maestro and sometimes-pretty-good-director Rob Zombie has announced his next film project, his fifth to be exact. Unfortunately, it is NOT Werewolf Women of the S.S. (the trailer he contributed to the Tarantino/Rodriguez Grindhouse project), but instead a film titled Lords of Salem. More after the jump!
Naturally the film will feature the titular town and witches from its well-known witch-hunting heyday. Zombie is planning to write the script during his upcoming tour with Alice Cooper (let’s hope he asks Cooper to add a dash of his own horror know-how into the script!)
Zombie will make the film for Haunted Pictures and Alliance Films, and, according to Zombie, he jumped at the chance to do the project because he has total control over the film. In an interview with Deadline, Zombie specifically points to the battles he had over his vision of the Halloween remakes which is what lead him to tackle a project that will be completely his own rather than another remake. I got to say, the director’s cuts of both films were better than the ones released to theaters, so I can dig that.
Zombie’s definitely a niche filmmaker – all of his projects fit in the horror genre with a dash of his trademark quirky goofiness – but his results have always been not only fun, but impressive as well.
Oh, and on a Werewolf Women of the S.S. note, an extended version of the trailer will be on the upcoming Grindhouse Deluxe Edition DVD release. Zombie’s website totes it as “More Commander Hess! More Eva Krupp! More Fu Manchu! More nude Nazi action! Do not miss this!” Let us know readers – is there anything else you could ask for?
