Kristen Bell first became famous for her lead role in the TV series, Veronica Mars, playing a teenage detective in search of justice in her small-town when her best friend is murdered. The show thrived for three seasons from 2004 – 2007, and now there’s talk about the beloved series coming to the big screen as a full-length feature film. To my knowledge, the show is not presently airing in syndication, so I think it’s safe to say that nobody, except long-lost devoted fans from six years ago, will remember that the show even existed.
The New York Post said that in July, Veronica Mars creator, Rob Thomas, revealed that the project wasn’t underway any time soon. This week, The Hollywood Reporter explains that Bell has announced that she would fund the project herself if Warner Bros. would release the rights. Additionally, the thirty-year-old actress sees that time is of the essence and she’s determined to star in the film version before she’s forty and to prove that an audience still exists for the character and story.
Since the show’s end, Bell continued to stay faithful to the small screen with a twelve episode stint on Heroes as Zachary Quinto’s character, Sylar’s love interest, Elle, and has narrated Gossip Girl since 2007. On the big screen, she found success with the hit comedy Forgetting Sarah Marshall, which led to roles in the Vince Vaughn / Jon Favreau flick Couples Retreat and most recently You Again opposite Sigourney Weaver, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Betty White. Bell has kept busy making films like the highly-anticipated Burlesque opposite Christina Aguilera and Cher, as well as the newest Scream installment, Scream 4, with Emma Roberts, Hayden Panettiere, and Neve Campbell.
If Bell hadn’t reached any success in films, then none of this conversation would even be taking place.
