Not even a month ago, MovieBuzzers.com reported on the trailer for Burlesque, starring Christina Aguilera, in her film debut, Cher, Stanley Tucci, Kristen Bell, Eric Dane, Alan Cumming, Peter Gallagher, and Julianne Hough. It was jam-packed with little surprise and lots of music video-like shots of swiveling hips and sparkly costumes. Perhaps this left movie-goers a little under whelmed, especially since we‘ve seen Aguilera in vintage-Hollywood and flapper-inspired stage looks previously in her career.
A second trailer is certainly more insightful, offering the audience a chance to want to root for Aguilera’s Ali as she goes on a glum to glam journey. It still offers a very face-paced, overly produced feel, beyond Chicago and Nine, but with a second look at the world around her, any young, budding singer or recording artist in the audience will embrace the film all the more. Check it out the second trailer after the jump.
At least with this companion trailer, we see that Ali isn’t an entirely naïve or overly anxious country girl who wants to be a star. We learn that she has the smarts and determination to get on that stage and make a name for herself, no matter how tough Cher’s Tess is on her. Also, we see that Cam Gigandet (Easy A) is the clear love interest to the rising star.
Yes, we know what a big voice Aguilera has, so to see a story as a character with an underestimated talent, mirroring her own start on the pop scene verses the likes of quickly successful blondes including Britney Spears, Jessica Simpson, and Mandy Moore back in 1999, the central conflict of the film based on the trailer is a little predictable, but shows more guts than the originally portrayed Glitter in the first trailer.
