Well that didn’t take long! Variety is reporting that Gotti: Three Generations is officially looking for a new director. Originally Nick Cassavetes was set to direct the biopic about the Gambino family’s boss John Gotti and his son John Gotti Jr, however, due to “scheduling issues” Cassavetes has left the project.
Variety stated that the issue was due to Cassavetes indie film Yellow and he wasn’t going to be able to finish before the Gotti film was suppose to start shooting in October. I don’t know exactly how far along they are with Yellow, but I do know the film has already begun shooting and should probably finish up in the next couple of months. That being said, if Yellow takes 6 months to film (which most films do not) Nick should have no issue what-so-ever with scheduling. Besides Yellow, Nick has nothing coming up so it makes me believe there were creative issues between Nick and John Gotti Jr. Whatever the case may be, Gotti needs a new director, but lucky for them they have more than enough time to find one.
So far we know that John Travolta will play John Gotti and Joe Pesci is set to play Angelo Ruggiero. It has been rumored/reported that Lindsay Lohan will play her family friend, Victoria Gotti, but this has yet to be confirmed.
The film will be based off the script penned by Leo Rossio and has been referred to as “The New Godfather” by producer Marc Fiore. If this is the case, I think their best bet is to not cast Lindsay in any role or even allow her anywhere near the sets.
