Uncle Ben Parker, despite his short-lived fictional life (he debuted and was killed in the same story!), is an incredibly important figure in the Spider-Man story. After all, it is his death, which Peter Parker feels responsible for, that inspires him to devote his powers to doing good. Because it is such an important role, it’s vital to have a great actor play the part. While Oscar-winner Cliff Robertson did an excellent job in the Raimi Spider-Man trilogy, the upcoming Spider-Man reboot has cast Emmy and Golden Globe award winning actor Martin Sheen as Spider-Man’s influential uncle. Now, click “more” to find out who’s rumored to play Aunt May, Spider-Man’s moral compass!
The latest spidy offer is to two-time Oscar winner Sally Field, who would be cast as Aunt May if she accepts. This would again add another world-class performer in the upcoming reboot. The bit-too-young-looking for Aunt May, Ms. Field has been mostly dabbling in television during this past decade. Obviously it’s not confirmed, but an actress with her resume could certainly pull off the important role of Aunt May.
The still-not-officially-titled Spider-Man reboot will be directed by Marc Webb and stars Andrew Garfield as Spider-Man, Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy, and Rhys Ifans as the Lizard. It is expected to be released in 2012.
