Entering the room, Adrien Brody immediately sets the mood by commenting that it looks like he’s entering a board room with the group of press assembled at a small table at a hotel off Central Park. He’s relaxed and clearly ready to field questions about his upcoming film, Detachment. Coverage of the film on MovieBuzzers is here, as well as our own Brett Edward Scout’s review. The full 25 minute session is available here or stream it below.
During the interview, Brody was asked several questions, mostly relating to the film and his own personal take on his love of acting and working with others. I was anxiously awaiting a chance to ask him about his role in Predators when it came up naturally in the course of a discussion about making films that’s he’s passionate about. Brody said he had difficulty convincing the powers-that-be that he would be a good choice for the role. It was clear that he was a fan of the original 1987 film, Predator, with Arnold Schwarzenegger, and his take was that although he wasn’t the same physically as the original character, it was his brains that defeated the alien anyway. Brody also talked about working with director Tony Kaye. It was a very collaborative relationship that Brody contributes to Kaye’s hands-on filmmaking. Brody commented that he’s worked on sets where it takes four hours to light a scene, yet Kaye used practical means and the two were then able to spend the time working on the character. I always find it fascinating to hear about the filmmaking process and this was no exception.
Also interviewed was Sami Gayle, who plays Erica in the film. She’s a series regular on CBS’ Blue Bloods and a promising young actress. She spoke about her involvement in the film and the advise she was given from Adrien during shooting. Her full session is also available here or available to stream further down the page.
I saw the film for 2011’s Tribeca Film Festival and was blown away. The film is so brutally honest, you’ll likely never be able to shake it. It’s now out in theaters and available on VOD (video on demand).
