So yesterday depending on which time zone you are in, we posted a brief story stating that Simon Pegg announced via his twitter account, that we would be getting the first Star Trek Into Darkness trailer today. However this does not seem to be the case, nor does it seem to be the case for the immediate future.
Paramount just sent out an announcement for what I assumed was the link to the trailer for the J.J. Abrams sequel. Upon opening the email I see that not only is it not a trailer, it isn’t even a teaser trailer! It contained a time locked link to an Announcement Video that won’t become active until 12:01AM PST. See below (should be active now)
If you are reading this, then I’d imagine the link is now live, what it contains upon writing this, I have no idea but if the statement in the email means anything, this is an announcement about a teaser trailer hitting the web on December 17th. So not only was Pegg’s tweet a bit off, it seems that the only way to see an actual trailer or any part of the film will be to check out The Hobbit, which opens on the 14th this month. Then we have to wait another couple of days for the internet debut of the teaser trailer.
I know we promised a trailer and I am just as shocked as everyone else that there isn’t one, but at least this is something, which is pretty good considering the secrecy of this film thus far. We can’t blame Pegg either because he seems just as excited for the film as everyone else. We forgive you Pegg, we forgive you!
Star Trek Into Darkness hits theaters May 17,2013.
Update: Since going live, it seems that the video did in fact contain scenes from the film and was teaser-ish in a sense. We still really don’t know anything about the film via the video as oppoose to lots and lots of destruction and what looked to be the Enterprise crashing. Strangly enough, there was no mention of the teaser trailer being release on the 17th, however this was rehased in the latest email from Paramount when the video went live.
