During the Iron Man 3 panel at this year’s SDCC, we learned what the titles would be for Marvel’s next four films including the sequel to Captain America titled Captain America: The Winter Soldier. I’m personally not very familiar with the world of Captain America or this story arc but it seems as if fans are really excited for it, especially if this title happens to describe the plot that the film follows. If that is the case that would mean that Captain’s (Chris Evans) buddy Bucky is brought back to life as a bionic Russian assassin which translates to Captain needing a new sidekick to help him kick ass.
Cue Anthony Mackie. According to The Hollywood Reported, it appears as if Anthony Mackie is in talks to play Sam Wilson aka Falcon, a Harlem based superhero who fought many battles alongside the Captain in the 1970s comics. His power comes from a suit that enables him to fly while also boosting his strength. He apparently can also telepathically talk to birds.
I like Mackie and I like the idea of having a character like the Falcon in a Captain America film as I think it’ll make it a much more enjoyable feature compared to the first one. Let’s just hope Mackie can live up to the expectations that come along with any Marvel movie…that is, once he actually decides to take the role.
Captain America: The Winter Soldier is being directed by Joe and Anthony Russo and is set for an April 4, 2014 release date.
