Armie Hammer may be best known for his breakout dual-roles as the spoiled Winklevoss twins in The Social Network, but his star meter is rising. Movie Buzzers recently reported that the very tall actor will play the prince in The Brothers Grimm: Snow White, but he is now cast in the title role in The Lone Ranger, opposite Pirates of the Caribbean star Johnny Depp as Tonto.
Variety reports that POTC producer Jerry Bruckheimer, who has a long relationship with Disney, is already promoting the film which may be set for a 2014 release. Under the direction of POTC 1-3‘s Gore Verbinski, the script was adapted by Justin Haythe (Revolutionary Road).
Depp has been long attached to the project since back in 2008, and some thought that he would play the lead. The actor has been very adamant in his statements about portraying the misunderstood sidekick. In addition, Movie Buzzers even reported that Ryan Gosling (Drive) was rumored to play the Lone Ranger.
As more casting details emerge, we’ll be right on top of it. Do you think Hammer will make a good Lone Ranger? Will he match up with Depp for some on-screen magic?
