We at Movie Buzzers have been speculating on the eventual cast for The Expendables 2 for quite some time (we’re in favor of adding the rumored Chuck Norris, Jean-Claude Van Damme and Donnie Yen), but two names always in the cycle have been Arnold Schwarzenegger and Bruce Willis, who both had cameos in the original in an earth-shaking scene with Sylvester Stallone, putting the three 80s action icons on screen at one time. But it couldn’t help but be a little bit disappointing since, after all, the trio faced no terrorists, helicopter explosions, or gunfire during their conversational exchange in The Expendables.
But it looks like that might change for the sequel. According to Deadline, Willis and Schwarzenegger have signed to appear in “substantial” roles in The Expendables 2, which is great news for any fan of action movies. Schwarzenegger will be doing the role right before he starts filming The Last Stand and Willis is doing the same right before he shoots Die Hard 5, after which he’ll jump right into a sequel to Red.
It’s expected that most of the original cast — including Sylvester Stallone, Mickey Rourke, Jason Statham, Dolph Lundgren, and Steve Austin — will be retuning for the sequel, which will be directed by Simon West. JEt Li is unlikely to bThe Expendables 2 is set for release in August 2012.
