There is no better time to make a casting change then the week your character is suppose to start filming. For reasons unknown, Julia Ormond has been replaced by Ayelet Zurer (Angels and Demons) to take over the role of Lara Lor-Van, Superman’s biological mother, in Zack Snyder‘s Man of Steel. Zurer will star along side with Russell Crowe as Jor-El in the film.
Deadline broke the news about the abrupt casting change and that Zurer will start shooting this week. They also advised that she is not going to have many scenes on location and that most of her work will be done on stages, so we probably won’t get a spy photo of her on set, but you never know when it comes to this film.
This role in the film shouldn’t make or break the film, so a last minute casting change is not that big of a deal. Still, it will be interesting to learn why Ormond left or got replaced on the film. We know it isn’t due to a scheduling conflict so the mystery remains.
Man of Steel stars Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Diane Lane, Kevin Costner, Michael Shannon, Antje Traue, Christopher Meloni, Harry Lennix and Laurence Fishburne. The film is set for a June 14, 2013 release.
