All I’m going to say is “I TOLD YOU SO,” regarding my prediction about Bane. Hit the jump to read the press release so as to find out who will be playing Bane and what luck lady has been cast Selina Kyle, aka Catwoman, in Christopher Nolan’s final Batman film, The Dark Knight Rises.
Warner Bros. Pictures announced today that Anne Hathaway has been cast as Selina Kyle in Christopher Nolan’s “The Dark Knight Rises.” She will be starring alongside Christian Bale, who returns in the title role of Bruce Wayne/Batman. Christopher Nolan stated, “I am thrilled to have the opportunity to work with Anne Hathaway, who will be a fantastic addition to our ensemble as we complete our story.”
In addition, Tom Hardy has been set to play Bane. Nolan said, “I am delighted to be working with Tom again and excited to watch him bring to life our new interpretation of one of Batman’s most formidable enemies.” Nolan will direct the film from a screenplay he wrote with Jonathan Nolan, from a story by Christopher Nolan and David S. Goyer. Nolan will also produce the film with his longtime producing partner, Emma Thomas, and Charles Roven. “The Dark Knight Rises” is slated for release on July 20, 2012. The film will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.
Back when Tom Hardy (Inception) was set to appear in the final Batman film, I made the prediction, HERE, that he would be playing Bane, and I couldn’t be any more thrilled about it. He is perfect for the beastly role opposite Mr. Christian Bale and it was his performance in Bronson that truly solidified that characteristic about him.
Unfortunately, I can’t share the same enthusiasm for Anne Hathaway simply because I don’t trust her enough. I still don’t think she has developed into a powerful actress that she can fill Michelle Pfeiffer’s big shoes. I may have been secretly rooting for Gemma Arterton because I find her more seductive and ideal for a cat-like role.
It will be interesting to see how much of a role Catwoman will have in this film and how Nolan plans to remedy the disaster that was Bane’s appearance in Batman and Robin.
