If you ever had any doubts that Thor: The Dark World would possibly lack villains or stories, man were you wrong. It seems like we are getting a new villain every week now which, so far, has been fan-freakin-tastic.
Today, Variety is reporting that Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje or better known as Mr. Eko to Lost fans, has been casted as a Dark Elf in the film. Adewale won’t be playing just any elf, he gets the privilage of playing one of the most powerful dark elves in the realms, Algrim the Strong/Kurse.
Algrim/Kurse has an interesting story behind him and some might be wondering what the heck is up with the double names. Well, I’ll explain. Algrim is hired/recruited by Malekith the Accursed (which who we know will be played by Christopher Eccleston) to kill Thor. While Algrim battles Thor, Malekith opens a pit which both Thor and Algrim begin to fall. Thor is saved by Mjolnir however Algrim falls into a pit of lava only to be saved by his enchanted armor. However, Algrim suffers a case of Amnesia and eventually is transformed into the villain Kurse, by a character known as The Beyonder.
Kurse plays a fairly significant role in the Thor storylines so it’s exciting to see him making his appearance in the film. It’s even more exciting to see Adewale in the role and seeing what he can bring to the dark elf. So it seems with the news of the recent castings, Thor will have his hands full with some dark elves in the film which makes more sense as to why the film is title “The Dark World”.
Thor: The Dark World hits theaters November 8,2013 and will bring back Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Anthony Hopkins, Natalie Portman and Kat Dennings. Also Alan Taylor is taking over the directors chair for the sequel!
