Starring the great Chow Yun Fat, comes this story about one of the most revered philosophers of all time, Confucius. The film is directed by the relatively unknown Mei Hu but so far, by the looks of it, he is putting his $20 million budget to good use. Judging by the trailer, Confucius is going to be a visual spectacle on the big screen due its vivid visuals, colors, and acting. The trailer has no dialogue but gives you a great feel for what the story is going to be about while backed by a soothing instrumental.
Trailer and more after the jump
When it comes to Chinese movies, epics are my favorite and it looks like this is going to be one of those good ol’ Chinese epics that distributors bring to theaters once, maybe twice, a year. As a fan of his work, Chow Yun Fat is probably going to nail this role. The only concern that seems to be brewing around the net is that it is being co-sponsored in part by the Chinese government. This means that controversy will most likely be left out and that this movie is going to be rather straight forward. From what I’ve read, the goal of this movie is to increase awareness and promote Confucius’ philosophy to the younger generations.
Either way I’m looking forward to it and hope it can accomplish what it sets out to do, offer a visual story about the famous man everybody learns about in high school. Maybe will even get a “Confucius say” quote 😉 .
