One of the best crime films I’ve ever seen was Jacques Audiard’s prison drama, A Prophet. It’s a phenomenal film that stole my heart and ever since then I’ve been waiting to see the man’s next film. His next feature, titled Rust & Bone (De rouille et d’os), has been a long time coming but it had a lot going for it before this trailer was even released, namely the fact that Marion Cotillard (Inception; La Vie en Rose) and Matthias Schoenaerts (Bullhead) were set to star as the leads and Alexandre Desplat was composing the score.
According to The Playlist, the film, which was “adapted from short stories by Canadian author Craig Davidson, follows the relationship between a homeless man (Schoenaerts) and a trainer of killer whales in a sea park (Cotillard) who loses her legs in a horrific accident.”
While there are no English subtitles for this French trailer, the visuals are amazing and hopefully the film will be as compelling as the story the trailer suggests to tell. If you live in France, the movie will be released in theaters on May 17th so you’ll be able to let us know how good it is before it comes to the states. Sony Picture Classics has the US rights but has yet to announce a date (hopefully by the end of May it will have one).
Anyway, check out the trailer for Rust & Bone yourself (thanks to Cinemateaser) and let us know what you think of it. Will it be another hit for writer/director Jacques Audiard? You decide!
