With the fact that The Avengers has made more money than even the most dasterdly scheme that the Masters of Evil could think up, it makes perfect sense that WB is trying to unite the many spandax-clad heroes in its stable with Justice League. What may not make as much sense to people is the main person WB is looking to direct it: Ben Affleck.
According to sources, Affleck is the only person who has been sent Will Beall’s script for the film. Affleck’s films are normally more emotionally internal and mature than a Justice League movie, however, so there is some legitimate concern if he is up to the challenge. A film that has Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, Flash, and perhaps even more protagonists has very different needs than The Town or Gone Baby Gone. Adding to the potential problem is the fact that Affleck may also want to star in the film– something that could both bother the executives upstairs if they feel he isn’t bankable or damage the potential balance of protagonists in the script. However, none of this is confirmed, and there are also conflicting reports that Affleck is not interested in the movie at all, with his reps allegedly saying that he is “definitely” not directing or starring in the film. As more information comes in, we’ll know for sure if Affleck wants to take a stab at being a superhero and directing what could potentially be an immense project.
