In an interview a few weeks back, Ben Affleck expressed a deep respect for Clint Eastwood for his actor-to-director transition and proving brilliant in both roles. Looks like with the success of The Town Affleck is looking to follow in the footsteps of the former Dirty Harry. Find out after the jump what film Warner Brothers has offered Affleck to direct.
Sticking firmly within the crime parameters of the two previous films Affleck directed, WB has offered Affleck the director’s chair for Tales from the Gangster Squad, a cop drama set in 1940s Los Angeles, focusing on the true story of a group of off-the-books cops who went after gangster Micky Cohen, who virtually ran major parts of Los Angeles. Sounds promising, but there’s no indication that Affleck will sign to direct the film and jump on one of the dozens of other projects that are probably being offered to him. Nonetheless, it does show that studios are looking at him seriously as a director, which means Affleck might be entering a whole knew phase of his career. And I thought he’d never work again after Pearl Harbor!
