Peanut butter and jelly. Dinner and a movie. Batman and Robin. Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers. Ben Affleck and Matt Damon. Some things just go together, man. And while the pair hasn’t been seen on film together since, um, Jersey Girl, we all knew they’d be back together again someday, especially since the duo has their own production company, Pearl Street. That day has finally arrived according to Deadline, with Affleck and Damon pairing together in a biopic of notorious Boston gangster Whitey Bulger, who was recently captured in California after being on the FBI’s most wanted list for over a decade.
Damon would star as Bulger with Affleck co-starring along with his younger brother Casey Affleck. What I find even more exciting is that the script will be written by Terrence Winter (Boardwalk Empire, The Sopranos), who obviously knows a thing or two about organized crime. Ben Affleck has shown himself to be a much more talented director than actor, and Damon’s been on quite a roll over the past few years. There’s no word on when exactly the film will go into production, but with Bulger still awaiting trial while sitting in a jail cell in Massachusetts it might be a ways off.
