It’s always a good day in the film news industry when we get word on a celebrity in final talks with becoming a villain in an upcoming superhero film. Fans get to speculate on who they think the actor or actress will play and then when word finally comes out on who the villain is, everyone is usually wrong. So start the speculations, because we have another one for you.
Variety is reporting that Ben Kingsley is in final talks to play an unannounced villain in Iron Man 3. They stated that Marvel has declined to comment on who Kingsley would be playing and the deal itself, however, insiders are reporting that Kingsley WILL NOT be playing Mandarin. But what do insiders know right? Right? This information may come to a shock to some fans who were hoping to see Mandarin in the third film but we have know for awhile now that the film is going to be loosely based off the Iron Man: Extremis mini-series, written by Warren Ellis, which involves nanotechnology and no Mandarin.
So to recap who and what we know about the third film, we know that Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Gwyneth Paltrow and Don Cheadle have all signed on for the film and will reprise their roles in the franchise. Also, Shane Black is taking over the directing chair from Jon Favreau and shooting will be getting underway next month with a May 3, 2013 release.
