Well this might have been the last movie I would have thought warranted another sequel. Troy Duffy’s original film, The Boondock Saints is no doubt a cult hit. While it may leave some people divided, amongst the college circuit whilst I was in attendance it always seemed to be a movie people loved to watch over and over again, and I was one of them.
Suffice to say, when we all heard there would be a sequel everyone got excited. Once The Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day was released in 2009, it seemed like that excitement had fizzled out as the follow-up didn’t live up to the hype or the quality of the original, at least for me, hence my reaction to the news that a potential third film is currently in the works.
While talking about The Walking Dead, Norman Reedus, who plays Murphy in the Boondocks films, informed IFC that Duffy, Flanery and himself are meeting to discuss a potential third film.
“I’m in L.A. right now [and] I’m meeting with Sean [Patrick Flanery] and Troy tonight. I just landed a couple hours ago and tonight I’m going over to Troy’s house with Sean. It’s definitely in the works. Look for it. It’s gonna be crazy.”
Though I remain skeptical of what the third film may bring, I absolutely love the characters from the films and think the McManus brothers are two of cinemas most badass non-costumed vigilantes for the sheer fact that they’re just average sized guys with a hardcore vision. I’m curious to see where this goes.
