Well our blog has its own introduction, but I didn’t. Okay, Okay so maybe technically I was introduced alongside my fellow reviewer, friend, movie goer, and founder Alex but I wanted to write my own separate introduction so here it is.
I’m Brandon as you know and I’m in my early twenties just like Alex; no wonder we’re friends right? Anyway I had two reasons behind founding this blog. The first is that I’m an avid web developer so the opportunity to essentially build a WordPress blog completely from scratch got me going. Besides that I’ve seen what friends and I consider a ridiculous amount of movies. When we go to watch a movie its more than likely that I’ve seen that movie at least once, as well an any others related to that movie. See its easier for Alex to quantify the amount of movies hes seen because he has a list of all the 250 movies on IMDB with lines through every single one of them and date signifying the day he watched it. Granted hes seen more than 250 movies but at least hes got a starting place. The best starting place I have is the number of ticket stubs I have in my drawer. I counted 87 ticket stubs. Now I only really started making sure I kept the stubs of movies I’ve gone to since about 2006. That’s almost 22 movies in theaters per year that I’ve seen, not counting the several rentals I watch weekly. According to this website that means each of the four years I’ve seen on average about 4 times the amount of movies the average US citizen sees in theaters per year.
I feel like that is a fairly impressive feat, that besides depleting my funds for other things such as food give me a unique perspective on movies. Since I’ve seen so many movies I can relate similar movies to each other. I do it for my friends all the time. What I’ve found is that its likely they’ve seen one of the other movies I mention allowing them to gauge the quality and type of movie they are asking me about. Furthermore, when I write I like to include examples of things I’m talking about. I feel that it allows the person reading to visualize what I’m writing. For example, if you take a look at the review I wrote for G.I. Joe, you’ll see that I reference four other movies that I feel are similar in nature. In doing so I’ve increased the odds you’ll be able to better determine the type of movie G.I. Joe is and what you can expect from it.
In addition to my examples, being a history major has trained me to try and do this; generalize the specific so that in the future it can be applied to other things. Which in turn will give you insight you would not have had without said generalization. In this blog, I will try to apply this type of thinking to movies. I will try to generalize specific movies so that when other similar movies come out in the future you can have an idea of what to expect from it.
What does this all mean? Basically, instead of Alex, other friends and I discussing movies I’ll be able to discuss a movie with anyone who reads this blog. Also instead of me trying to help friends and family decide which movie to see I’ll be trying to help anyone willing to read this blog pick the right movie to see. Before I end my introduction now would be a good time to quickly mention the types of movies I’ll be focusing on. Those movies will be mostly horror, and various “B” and “C” movies; however mainstream Hollywood movies will compose their fair share of my reviews as well.Well that’s all I have for now.
