With the original release date now just a fond memory, we finally get the first trailer for Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters. In case you have since forgotten the premise of the film, Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton star as the fairy tale characters who are now all grown up and out for witches blood in a quest to make a living, while also delivering revenge for what happened when they were younger.
The trailer gives us a good feel of the film and if the rumors of the film getting an R-rating are true, then the film has much more potential. You can see from the trailer there are multiple scenes which done with an R-rating in mind could be pretty graphic and also pretty kick ass. Check it out below and witness the slaughtering of some evil witches.
I can see where some might get the feeling of this being another cheesy rendition of something like Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, but I have a bit more faith in this film. I guess only time will tell if my assumption is correct but I do want to stress that the only way I see this film being somewhat of a success would be if it gets the R-rating as oppose to a pG-13. If it gets a PG-13, I wouldn’t expect much from it.
Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters opens in theaters January 11, 2013.
