With Marvel’s The Avengers set to kick the Summer blockbuster season off on May 4th, it’s only fitting that Disney begins looking into the future with how to continue their superhero franchises. We have known since the first film came out that Captain America: The First Avenger would get a sequel, the question was, when? Now we have that answer and also a very vague description of what we can expect in the sequel.
Disney sent out a press release today in which it announced April 4, 2014 as the release date. So far there is no official title for the film but we do learn a tiny bit about the time frame and when it will take place compared to the other Marvel films.
The second installment will pick-up where the highly anticipated Marvel’s The Avengers (May 4, 2012) leaves off, as Steve Rogers continues his affiliation with Nick Fury and S.H.I.E.L.D and struggles to embrace his role in the modern world.
I know some people might be a bit upset with this news because they feel like there are a ton of adventures they can tell back before Steve Rodgers was frozen, but you have to remember, just because the film is based in modern time and after The Avengers, doesn’t mean he can’t have flashbacks or run into an old foe or friend. With this little bit of news, lets recap.
Iron Man 3 hits May 3rd, 2013
Thor 2 releases November 15, 2013
Captain America 2 releases April 4, 2014
The Incredible Hulk 2 or Ant Man 2014???? We can only hope.
There is no word on who will direct the sequel to Captain America 2 as of yet.
