Ever since the golden age of comic book films began in the early 2000s, I have eagerly awaited for a Captain America film. It’s not like Steve Rogers is my favorite character or anything, but I always thought a Captain America film set in World War II (Cap’s original time period) and filmed in the style of Saving Private Ryan had the potential to be something special. At the very least, I just wanted to see Cap’s costume look like something a man fighting across Europe could wear as combat gear and not look like that creepy man in the skintight spandex costume at my fifth birthday party (why would you hire him, Mom?)
Thanks to Entertainment Weekly we get our first look at Chris Evans in costume as Captain America and, as you can see above, it certainly looks like something one could wear in a Nazi onslaught. I’ve had my doubts about Chris Evans — he didn’t exactly light the world on fire as the Human Torch in the Fantastic Four films (no pun intended), but he certainly looks the part (is it just me, or does he look a bit like Daniel Craig on the cover shot?) After the jump you will find the cover shot along with a few other images including one of Weaving as the Red Skull.
And here is the cover shot where I thought he looked a bit like Daniel Craig.

I definitely can’t wait to see this film now… too bad it won’t be out until July 2011! The film is directed by Joe Johnston and also stars Hugo Weaving, Hayley Atwell, Sebastian Stan, Stanley Tucci, and, of course, Mr. Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury.
