When it comes to information regarding Captain America: The Winter Solder, news has been pretty frozen. Not much to go on story wise besides the title and what few hints have been revelead through the cast and the brief synopsis Marvel provided back in April.
We do know that the film will be set in the modern day after the events that transpired in The Avengers with flashbacks to Caps past. So with the modern time needs to come a modern leading lady/love interest for Cap since Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell) would be in her 90’s or dead by now. Many believed that Atwell would return to play the role of Sharon Carter who is Peggy’s niece as well as an agent for S.H.I.E.L.D. While some might have an issue with this, it seems that Marvel has decided against Atwell and are now looking for a new leading lady. Up for the role which many are assuming will be Sharon Carter are Anna Kendrick, Imogen Poots and Felicity Jones.
Personally I think Kendrick or Jones would make a nice Sharon Carter, however I feel like there could be someone better suited for the role. Who that person is, I can’t tell you right now but I just don’t really see Sharon Carter in any of these actresses. Again we could be completely wrong with who the character is they are casting, but I would bet my last dollar it was for Sharon Carter.
Captain America: The Winter Soldier is set to begin production by the end of 2012 and has a release date set for April 4, 2014.
Now staying in the Marvel Universe, Joss Whedon did an interview over in Japan and they got him to talk a bit about The Avengers 2. While he didn’t drop any major information or spoilers regarding the film, he did enlighten us on his stance for the film and told us that he will in fact be adding another hero to the team and how the Wasp was suppose to make an appearance in the first film as well as his TV series.
The interview came from Gizmodo Japan and trying to translate anything in Japanese online becomes a mess. Thankfully the guys over at ScreenRant put togeather translated bullet points from the interview. I tried translating it and let me just say, it didn’t make much sense to me, so props to SR.
- Whedon admits writing The Avengers screenplay was especially hard in giving each character their share of story and screentime.
- He loved working with the Hulk and Loki characters.
- For the sequel, Whedon wants a somewhat smaller-scale film in that it’ll be more personal, but teases larger event, team and villain.
- Whedon teases a bigger team for The Avengers 2, with at least one new character he’s adding.
- “The Avengers” is more than a recognizable brand and will be used to promote Whedon’s TV series.
- Whedon will be working with Marvel Studios President of Production and producer Kevin Feige on organizing all the Phase Two films.
- However, that doesn’t mean they’ll be interfering to make them all fit. He talks about each film leading up to The Avengers 2 needing their own identity, being able to stand as their own franchises, their own type of fun.
- That way The Avengers can offer its own kind of excitement for when all the heroes gather.
- Viewers won’t need to have watched all the solo films to understand and get into The Avengers 2. Like the films leading up to it, it will stand on its own.
- Whedon talks about Hulk’s combat style not following any uniform martial arts techniques, instead more of a violent, emotional rage. He also talks about framing shots to emphasize the anger on Hulk and actor Mark Ruffalo’s face.
- Whedon reiterates how Wasp was almost a character to be included but was cut.
- For each film, Whedon believes each character should be treated as if it’s the only chance to use that character.
So as you can see, there was some pretty interesting things spilled there by Joss and it gives us hope that maybe Hawkeye will have more screen time in the next film. I found it interesting that he will be a consultant for every other Marvel film going forward, but it isn’t surprising. I guess if you are going to be directing the daddy of the Marvel films, you need to have a say so in how you raise the kids.
