Carey Mulligan (An Education) is currently filming The Great Gatsby in Australia alongside Leonardo DiCaprio and Tobey Maguire, and is also coming off a very successful fall / winter season at the box office with the action drama Drive and her December 2nd premiere of Shame with Michael Fassbender (See Alex’s review HERE). However, the Academy Award nominated actress isn’t slowing down- not even for the Coen Brothers or Spike Jonze!
Variety is reporting that Mulligan has signed on to star in Inside Llewyn Davis for the Coens, opposite her on-screen husband from Drive, Oscar Isaac. The 1960s period piece follows a young singer-songwriter who tries to find success in New York. There is no word yet if Mulligan will lend her singing chops to the film, especially since there has been so much news lately on her vocals in Shame.
Next, Mulligan will be under Jonze’s direction in an untitled project with Joaquin Phoenix, written by Charlie Kaufman (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind). So far, all we know about this film is that it is “about world leaders uniting to discuss cataclysmic events.”
What do you think about Mulligan’s choices of projects? Would you like to see her in more mainstream films or do you like how she sticks to the serious roles?
