Since the all-star casting success of films like He’s Just Not That Into You, Love Actually, and Valentine’s Day, New Line is preparing for New Year’s Eve. The romantic comedy will most likely follow suit with a variety of famous faces who struggle with their personal relationships or get into some kind of wholesome, yet sordid trouble on the celebrated night. Hit the jump to find out which actresses have already signed on for this romantic sequel!
Not long ago, E! Online reported that Glee star Lea Michele was the first to be cast in New Year’s Eve, and this will mark her film debut. Her comedic role as the obsessive diva Rachel Berry on the Golden Globe winning series has certainly earned her a spot on the Hollywood radar, of course with the help of her starring role on Broadway in the hit musical Spring Awakening. This is sure to be a big payday for Michele who begins to set up a big screen resume once her television persona is expected to graduate from high school in about two seasons.
Also, Entertainment Weekly reports that child star Abigail Breslin (Little Miss Sunshine) has recently been in talks to join the cast as well. The Oscar nominee is no stranger to comedy having stolen the spotlight in Little Miss Sunshine, Definitely Maybe, and Zombieland. Perhaps she’ll take on a coming-of-age role, much like what Emma Roberts and Taylor Swift tried to establish in Valentine’s Day.
Although legendary director Garry Marshall has not officially inked a deal to helm the project, the industry anticipates that he will jump on board for the quintessential holiday date movie. Katherine Fugate, writer to TV’s Army Wives and Valentine’s Day, is listed on IMDB as screenwriter for the upcoming production.
According to IMDB, bigger names that are rumored to be attached to the film are Halle Berry (Swordfish) and Reese Witherspoon (Walk the Line), both who usually headline the films in which they star. Also, Disnology.com reveals that Marshall has his eye on Zac Efron (Charlie St. Cloud) to join the cast, possibly opposite Michele? There is no official news yet on other casting additions, but we can certainly speculate. Perhaps the likes of Tina Fey (30 Rock), Chris Pine (Unstoppable), Justin Chambers (Grey’s Anatomy), or Lauren Graham (Parenthood) could add some sass to the ensemble.
Set for a December 9, 2011 release, this will definitely fill all the daily talk shows with celebrity guest appearances to promote the film, as well as place as a lighter movie choice in theaters for next year’s drama heavy awards season. MovieBuzzers will keep you posted as more juicy details unfold!
