Variety is reporting that Paramount has offered Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman, who directed the terrible “Documentary” Catfish, the opportunity to direct Paranormal Activity 3.
The film is tentatively scheduled for an October 21, 2011 release, however the script is still being written by Christopher B. Landon.
There is talk that the film will be an origin story that will be set in the 1980’s and will follow a new family.
Honestly this sounds like the end to the PA franchise for a few reasons, first we don’t need an origin story, we already know the what and the why thanks to the first two films. Also, why wouldn’t they want to continue on the story with Katie and Hunter? That’s more interesting to people then an origin story. As far as the directors, Catfish was a terrible movie and was a huge waste of time. These two have no experience with directing a horror film, much less one that has a following. They have directed one film that was a “Documentary”. Can they redeem themselves with PA3? Maybe, but my hopes for this film have greatly decreased. Stay tuned for more updates.
