I’m not an avid watcher of anime but I’ve been fortunate that most of the ones that I’ve watched have been pretty good. When I heard about the popularity of an anime called Attack on Titan and saw that it was on Netflix I decided to give it a shot. Fast forward hours later and I’m halfway through the first season, completely hooked on this awesome show, one that I highly recommend to anyone that’s ever enjoyed the crazy style of anime television or movies. It’s my favorite “new” show of the year and ever since I finished all the available episodes a few months back I had to know what was in store for this series.
Well, the reason we don’t have new episodes yet is because the manga in which the show is based on is still being written. Season 2 should hit Japanese airwaves by spring 2015, giving the studio enough time to look through all of the details in the manga and making sure everything is lined up correctly. Before S2 hits there will be a prequel movie called ‘Attack on Titan: No Regrets Birth of Levi’ that gets released with the manga, but that isn’t the movie I’m going to talk about. No, Japanese studio Toho has been developing a live-action feature with director Isayama Hajime at the helm.
The film will be a two part release set to hit theaters in Japan in the summer of 2015. A couple of interesting things about the film is that it will feature seven new characters not in the manga, both good and bad. The screenwriter of Gantz and Gatchaman, Watanabe Yûsuke , penned the film (which is great), while Tsuge Isao, the art director of 13 Asssassins, is onboard as the costume designer.
Up until this week we haven’t seen any images or known who was in the film but that all has changed. Toho has announced the case along with revealing a bunch of character posters for the upcoming film. The characters look great and so do the costumes. I’m really looking forward to seeing how this film turns out. So long as the acting is passionate just like the characters in the show and story I’ll be a happy man.
