It’s no secret that Charlize Theron (Snow White & the Huntsman) can take on some pretty powerful roles, but it was her turn in Young Adult that made critics take notice of her unlikely chops for (dry) comedy. The current king of comedy and this month’s Oscar host, Seth MacFarlane (Ted), is rumored to cast Theron in his upcoming production of A Million Ways to Die in the West.
The film, which is set to being production in May, “follows a sheepish farmer who chickens out of a gunfight and sees his girlfriend leave him. When he meets the wife of a notorious outlaw who offers to teach him how to shoot, the farmer at first sees a chance to win back his love but slowly falls for the woman. Complications ensue when the outlaw returns and reclaims his woman,” according to Slash Film.
It’s likely that the gun-slinging female part will go to Theron, while playing up to MacFarlane’s clueless and funny leading man role. Details behind the film’s female role have not yet been revealed, but the Blazing Saddles-like story plays on MacFarlane’s genius of awkwardness and male insecurity.
Once this month’s Oscars have completed, MacFarlane will finish up the script, followed by working on a sequel to last year’s comedy hit, Ted. In addition, Theron can be seen next in Mad Max with Tom Hardy, and is currently in pre-production with the drama / thriller, Murder Mystery.
What do you think about the story behind A Million Ways to Die in the West? Do you think MacFarlane and Theron will make a good on-screen match? Are you excited to hear about a Ted sequel?
