It may be a little unusual to see Oscar winner Charlize Theron donning a Hello Kitty t-shirt and sweat pants, but she’s got a good reason. Juno writer Diablo Cody and Up in the Air director Jason Reitman are responsible for this first image from Young Adult, an independent film in which Theron stars.
In what’s sure to be one of the most anticipated indie films of the year, here is the film’s synopsis, courtesy of Hey U Guys: “Theron plays Mavis Gary, a writer of teen literature who returns to her small hometown to relive her glory days and attempt to reclaim her happily married high school sweetheart (Patrick Wilson). When returning home proves more difficult than she thought, Mavis forms an unusual bond with a former classmate (Patton Oswalt) who hasn’t quite gotten over high school, either.”
Of course you know Wilson from movies like The Watchmen and The Ledge, but the film’s other star is Oswalt, co-star of the recently cancelled Cody-written Showtime series, The United States of Tara. He played Tara’s sister’s baby-daddy. In the movie, you’ll also see some familiar faces like J.K Simmons (The Closer), Elizabeth Reaser (The Twilight Saga), and Collette Wolfe (Observe & Report).
Do you think Theron teaming up with Cody and Reitman is a good match? Check out the full image below of the actress in character, obviously dressed in a way that would help her connect with her youthful readers, with a Victoria’s Secret shopping bag, and tiny Pomeranian in tow!
