If you hear someone talking about the film Carrie, almost instantly you vision the scene where Carrie is standing on stage at the Prom and gets doused in pig blood. The scene has become iconic in the film industry and it is only fitting that we get a first look at the aftermath in the remake which stars Chloe Moretz as Carrie.
The photos come from the upcoming issue of Entertainment Weekly and shows a blood drench Moretz in a state of confusion and anger. We also get our first look at Julianne Moore as Carrie’s crazy religious mother Margaret White. While not as colorful as Moretz’s photo, I think Moore makes a fine religious nut job. The film is being directed by Kimberly Peirce and hopefully she sticks closer to Stephen King’s novel then that last remake which was the ‘made for TV’ version. Sadly I must admit that I have seen the TV version and the sequel The Rage: Carrie 2, and yes both were terrible and didn’t come close to the original back in 1976.
For those who have never read the book or seen the original which featured Sissy Spacek as Carrie and Piper Laurie as Margaret, I highly recommend checking it out. The thing that blows my mind is that when I mentioned the remake to my parents, my mom explained to me that the original film gave her nightmares as a teen, however the book was even scarier than the film. Maybe I/we as a society have become desensitized but I didn’t find the original that terrifying. Lets hope the remake can dial up the horror!
If for some reason you have been living under a rock for your entire life, here is a brief synopsis of what Carrie is about:
The story of misfit high-school girl, Carrie White, who gradually discovers that she has telekinetic powers. Repressed by a domineering, ultra-religious mother and tormented by her peers at school, her efforts to fit in lead to a dramatic confrontation during the senior prom.
Carrie hits theaters March 13, 2013.
