Rumors were recently circulating that Thor star Chris Hemsworth was going to play the title role of the hunter, opposite Kristen Stewart (The Twilight Saga) in Snow White & the Huntsman, but it seems now that all eyes are on British actor, Sam Claflin, who has won the coveted role of Prince Charming, according to MTV News.
Hemsworth is no longer attached to the project, but Irish Central boasts, “our bets are on Mr. Claflin really pulling it off, though [Armie] Hammer has an Oscar-winner under his belt with The Social Network.” Hammer will be appearing in a rival telling of the story of Snow White in Tarsem Singh’s The Brothers Grimm: Snow White alongside musician Phil Collins‘ daughter, Lily Collins as Snow White.
During a press sit-down at MTV with Claflin and his Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides co-star Astrid Berges-Frisbey, Claflin says, “I’m very excited… I’m a big fan of her [Stewart’s] work. I’m truly sort of flabbergasted- that’s a good word, I love that… I’m just looking forward to getting my teeth into something new as well. I’ve never had so much fun [as I did] doing [‘Pirates’], working with Astrid and all the other actors. Being able to get my teeth into something new is something I’m really looking forward to.”
There are no other rumors about who will play the Huntsman, although we have reported that Hugh Jackman (X-Men Origins: The Wolverine) was a name thrown into the mix after Viggo Mortensen (Eastern Promises) dropped out. As of now, the only other definite member of the cast is Oscar winner Charlize Theron (The Road) who will be portraying the Evil Queen who hires the Huntsman to kill Snow White.
Do you think this unknown actor can hold his own against the very popular Stewart? Who would you like to see as the Huntsman?
